Thanks to Sidney Kan and Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya, I had a chance to sample the Ramadhan Buffet at Swez Brasserie before it is open to public on 18th June 2015.
This year, Swez Brasserie brings you a special Ramadhan buffet inspired by mother's home cooked meals entitled Sajian Ramadan Ibunda. There's a very special meaning to their buffet theme.
According to the team at Swez Brasserie, Ramadhan month is often perceived as a time of giving, forgiving and blessing. It is also said to be the time for reflection and contemplation, for charity and compassion, and for friends and families to turn their thoughts to those less fortunate. Looking at the in-depth meaning of Ramadhan month, the one person that you must not missed out is the great queen in your home; your mom. I'm sure you'll remember those delicious dishes which your mom cooked and sometimes never got a chance to taste them again. Swez Brasserie knows you by heart and specially prepared some mouth-watering home cooked dishes just for you during this Ramadhan month.
Appetizers
Do you remember the words often spoke to you by your mom when you dine at home when you're young? If you're a picky eater and often push the greens away, you'll often hear this 'Eat more vegetables because it contains a lot of vitamins which is good for your health'. A lump of greens is scoped onto your plate and you're scare to push it away. You'll need to remember your mom's advice on eating your greens.
Now, start your meal with some appetizing appetizers which often consist of vegetables too. I'm sure you're hungry at the start of your meal, just you can eat more of these greens which are good for your health and yet delicious.
The chefs at Swez Brasserie make your Ulam dish more interesting where the greens are beautifully arranged into a pot of flowers. It's nice to see and good to eat too! Just kill two birds with a stone :)
You can pair your Ulam with some sides such as hard boiled egg, salted egg, fried fish as well as different types of spicy sauce. These dishes are gracefully presented and arranged to resemble a flower motif that you can't say NO to them :)
These fried fishes are delicious to munch with and they are so crunchy that you can eat the whole thing too.
These hard boiled eggs are evenly cut and the arrangement seems to look like a lotus flower :)
Now, mirror mirror on the wall which sauce match my ulam dish best?
Do munch along some crackers while you're having your ulam! These are addictive!!!
Besides the traditional ulam, you can also find Kerabu dishes at Swez Brasserie's Ramadhan buffet. Their Kerabu dishes consist of Malay style such as the Kerabu Kacang Botol. I quite like the Kerabu Kacang Botol (Winged Beans)'s texture because the winged beans are cut to thin slices that you can munch easily.
I'm quite surprised to find a Chickpea salad here at the Ramadhan Buffet. This is something that you can't find at other buffets. Do try this if you dine here at Swez Brasserie.
Now, we shall move on to the Thai styled salads which served as a good appetizers too. To me, Thai styled salads are always a brilliant choice because of their spicy and sour nature which opens your appetite as well as the crunchy texture in its dishes. It makes you hunger for more. Do you often feel that you eat more when having a Thai cuisine compared to your usual meal?
You can expect to find classic Thai Som Tum (green papaya salad), glass noodle salad, spicy minced chicken salad and the signature prawn with pomelo salad here at Swez Brasserie. They all so delicious especially the prawn with pomelo salad - juicy prawns with sweet pomelo flesh.
There's something special about this Ramadhan Buffet at Swez Brasserie because it also serves Miang Kham, a traditional Thai snack as we often consume it as an appetizer in Thai restaurants. They do take their Thai cuisine seriously! The wild pepper leaves (or also known as wild betel leaves) are readily rolled to form a little cone for you to stuff it with the accompanying ingredients. There's peanuts, chilies, onions, ginger, lime, dried coconut as well as a special spicy sauce for you to pick up. Just pick those ingredients that you like in a larger amount and if you don't like spicy, do without the chopped chili.
There's also Pie Tee and spicy spring roll for you to munch on before you start your mains.
Cold Dish
You'll find a corner full of fresh seafood such as crabs, prawns, mussels and oysters which are meant to be served cold because it's a cold dish. Just grab that juicy seafood of your choice and dip it in the sauces provided.
Signature: Kambing Golek
Swez Brasserie presents you their Signature Kambing Golek (Roasted Whole Lamb) which is roasted to perfection. The skin (outler layer) is crunchy while the inner part is still juicy! I think I have found the perfect roasted lamb. This roasted lamb is served with seasoned long grain rice which also contains spices, raisins as well as cashew nuts. You can also eat it with the accompanying brown sauce or mint sauce. I prefer to have it with mint sauce because it complements the juicy lamb well.
Signature: Ayam Bertebu
Another signature dish from Swez Brasserie is the Ayam Bertebu (Roasted Chicken on Sugarcane). The well seasoned chicken is roasted to perfected on long and sweet sugarcane stick. The sweetness of sugarcane is being absorbed by the chicken during the roasting process resulting in a perfect and flavorful chicken.
This is after the chicken was chopped into pieces.
Signature: Grilled Saba Fish
Don't forget to try this Grilled Saba Fish when dining at Swez Brasserie. I'm missing this Saba fish now when I'm writing this :( Saba Fish (also known as mackerel) is commonly served in Japanese cuisine as grilled fish and now you can try a Malay style grilled Saba fish. It is well marinated with curry powder and other secret ingredients that absorbed into the fish itself which makes it so tasty.
Other Mains
There's also other mouth-watering dishes such as Puyuh Goreng Sambal Hijau, Asam Fish Curry and many more. All these dishes goes well with rice and you can pick either the white rice or the long grain rice from the roasted lamb.
Classic Rendang Tok
This one is another interesting dish where the duck egg is poached and then cooked with curry.
Fish Head curry and there are very large fish head in the pot
Snails (they are edible ones) cooked in curry style!
Clams cooked in fiery red curry.
Ketupat & Lemang
Ketupat and lemang are a must-have during Ramadhan and the festive is not complete without them. If you are going back hometown for Hari Raya, I'm sure your mom would wrap some delicious ketupat while waiting for you to reach home and also serves them to the guest on the festive day. Swez Brasserie serves some warm ketupat and lemang for you to rekindle those moments and enable you to feel the joy of celebrating it in a traditional way. Swez Brasserie also serves Lemang Pulut Hitam (black glutinous rice) and this is my second time consuming it. One good thing about their ketupat and lemang is that they are served hot. My first experience with this lemang pulut hitam wasn't so good compered to this because it was not warm when served during the buffet. But the one I had here at Swez Brasserie is hot and I can really taste the softness of the lemang. Rendang Chicken and Serunding (meat floss) are also present to pair it with your glutinous rice. Can you feel the warmth in your heart now?
Desserts
Are you already bloated with all the dishes above? I hope you're not because there's amazing sweet endings waiting for you too.
All DURIANS lovers must know about this exciting news, Swez Brasserie's dessert theme for their Ramadhan Buffet 2015 is King of Fruits - Durian. They had specially created a Durian dessert counter for their Ramadhan Buffet 2015 and all the desserts are made from durian! Be prepared to taste cakes, swiss roll, cream puffs, durian puffs, tarts, pie and bubur durian.
You gotta thank him for baking such delicious Durian desserts!
And there's also a real durian on the dessert counter. Opps, just kidding. Does this looks like a real durian to you? You must thank the dessert chef in the picture above for crafting such as beautiful masterpiece. It's actually a durian cake in the shape of a real durian! I really thought it was a real durian when I first saw it until someone told me that it's a cake.
Durian Puffs
Durian Crumble Cakes
Durian Tarts
OmG, I love this! It's Durian Cream Puffs.
Durian Mousse Pudding
Durian Swiss Roll
Bubur Durian
I think I left my heart at this dessert counter ;)
They are the perfect sweet endings and when you think of Swez Brasserie, you'll remember their Durian dessert counter!
Remember to grab some fruits to balance out your meal too.
They also served other desserts such as traditional Malay kuih-muih and ice-kacang.
This is their signature ice-kacang served in a glass where you can just scope it to eat or just drink it from the glass. On the top of the ice-kacang is the yam ice-cream and there's also air bandung in this ice-kacang which they call it a mixture of ice-kacang and sirup bandung. Sounds interesting huh?
I enjoyed my meal at Swez Brasserie. Bon appetit.
