The Porki Society, Seapark

Love the small tiny bowl of noodles which you can finish in one bite and then taking selfie with the colorful bowls stacking on top of each other after you're done? There's a new place for you to satisfy your one bite noodle craving here in Seapark, Petaling Jaya.

The Porki Society is situated in Seapark, few doors away from the corner KFC shop. It's the same area as the Seapark Myburgerlab, Flying Wan Tan Mee and Nasi Lemak Bumbung. Thanks to my friend from Big Boys Oven, I've got the invites to the soft launch The Porki Society. From the name itself, you will not expect that they are also selling boat noodles, a thai street food which had made us queue for hours to dine in Empire Damansara few months back.

Went to The Porki Society in the late evening around 8.30pm with my colleague. Finding a parking in Seapark in the late evening was easy. There were many people dining at their soft launch and we waited at their counter after we walked in with the above vouchers on our hand. Probably they were too busy but we stand there like 5 minutes feeling awkward when no one came to the counter :(

Luckily, someone came over after that and we got our table. And we spend the next few minutes snapping pictures of the interior decorations of the shop.

The entire shop has this old school stool and tables which we used to sit on when we were in primary school. They are repainted with some basic colours giving them a fresh new look. If you look at the floor, it has almost the same design and colours as its stools. The same goes for its tables too and the main colours are red, blue, white, yellow and green.

From the entrance, the colourful stools are on your right.

Some inspiration in painting your stools?
Colourful old school stools

Old school classroom tables and stools reminds me of having the year end or festive party in the class. It probably looks like a canteen setting due to the buckets of dining utensils on top of the table but to me it looks more like a classroom. Haha. My old school canteen has more modern tables and chairs :P
Dining in the classroom?

I've also noticed that there's some Coca-cola bottles decorations on the wall. If you've not noticed, there's a Coke bottle painting hanging above the colourful row of stools on one of the picture above.
Have a coke today!

Soon, we were served a mini glass bottle of Sprite each. It comes with a mug filled with ice for you to pour the Sprite in. I'm amazed to see the small glass bottle of beverage as most cafes and restaurant sells them in can form. Probably they should also input the Sprite bottle into their Coke bottles decorations :P

Just like the other boat noodle cafe, some condiments and sauces are provided to satisfy your spicy craving tongue. Hands up for garlic chili !

Their menu consist of only one page list with everything you need to satisfy your boat noodle craving. The main hero in the menu is of course the noodle which comes in soup or dry with a choice of meehoon or rice noodles to choose from. Selling at RM1.90 per bowl, the portion is just enough for one mouthful bite or probably two if your mouth is small :P

Besides the noodles, you can also order some snack or side dishes to complement your noodles. From the menu, there's 6 types of PORK side dishes to choose from. From braised pork, pork ball, BBQ pork, fried pork and etc; I'm sure you can satisfy your pork craving of the day too. If meat is not your cup of tea, you can opt to add bean sprout (tauge) or water spinach to your noodle at RM1.90 per portion. As for dessert, there's only one choice available on the menu which is Takoh kuih at RM2.50/2pcs.

Should it be call The Thai Porky Society?  :)

Soon, a waiter brought us a bowl of braised pork for sharing and this taste just like the home cooked braised pork which we had at home. Homesick :)   This is the Moo Tun Signature Marinated Pork, RM4.90 and it taste exactly like the braised pork that we had at home. Yum. Strong herb smell with soya sauce cooked with pork and complete with coriander as topping. Love the taste but too bad that the food is not hot. I would like it to be hot or least warm though.

And they have this nice-to-hold chopsticks :)

And here comes the signature boat noodle. This is the soup version with rice noodle at RM1.90/portion. There's plenty of tauge, kangkung, small chopped pieces of pork, some pork liver and also 2pcs of pork balls. And the "soup" seems to be reduction of pork bone soup and it's quite flavorful. There's some traces of nuts too and I just love the coriander which complements the noodles. If the soup is a bit hot, then it would be complete.

We were also served a bowl of pork balls with some pork bone soup. You can see the traces of pork in the soup ;) The pork balls taste normal just like the normal pork balls you've eaten. But the soup complement the pork balls was good; unlike the shops outside which will use clear soup with it.
Luk Chin Moo Pork Ball with soup, RM3.90

Yum Yum.

Here's the dry version of the noodle. The presence of gravy in this bowl of noodle is very minimal that is just enough to wet the noodle. It has the same ingredient as the soup version except that it's dry. I still prefer the soup or wet version of noodles because it's more flavorful and the dry one taste bland to me.

Here's another side dishes, the BBQ pork at RM4.90/2 sticks. I love this side dishes too. The BBQ pork meat has the same taste as the bakwa (dried pork meat or yuk gon) which we usually eat during CNY. Bakwa consist of thin layers of dried pork meat but this BBQ pork is thicker than bakwa and there's freshly cooked/BBQ pork meat inside the crunchy and brown outer part. Yum. Love this a lot! A must-order food when you dine here.

Food was good and it's a good try to come out with such a concept. However, the noodles are not warm or hot and it will be good if they are at least hot. Probably they need to hire more staff in cooking and serving the noodles as most boat noodles I've eaten before are at least warm. Didn't managed to try all the items mentioned in the voucher as it seems they were already closing shop or run out of food after that :(  In terms of service, probably they will have more staff when it's officially open as it's not ok to have customers waiting at the counter and also waiting more than 10 minutes unentertained or having no food to serve them.

Restaurant Paramount Seng Fatt, Taman Paramount

Whenever we were craving for some Chinese tai chow food, we would always come back to Restoran Seng Fatt in Taman Paramount. (throwback to previous post on this place) It's because they served good food at an affordable price. We always had our steam song fish head in different style and order the same vegetable dishes when we dine here.

However, we had something different this round as the lady who came and took our order recommend some different dishes. Instead of a fish, we went for pork this round. Unlike the normal marmite pork ribs, deep fried pork ribs, steamed pork, etcc... we had deep fried nam yu pork slices! As mentioned before, nam yu is a type of fermented beancurd made from beans. A good plate of nam yu pork is determine by the amount of nam yu used (if you're stingy and put in a little, the pork will taste bland) and the quality of nam yu used (good ones is pricier than the other). And this deep fried nam yu pork is just perfect. It's thinly sliced with crunchy on the outside and juicy inside. And the taste is just perfect; the nam yu taste is intense and oishi!

Deep fried nam yu pork, RM18

For our vegetables, we had the Spinach and century egg in superior soup. It comes with sliced of pork, carrot and fish cakes too. Taste normal but it will be good if there's salted egg :)

Spinach and century egg in superior soup, RM13

Our dinner is not complete without a plate of steamed tofu / beancurd. This is steamed tofu with soya sauce and top with deep fried dried prawns and chopped spring onions.

Steamed tofu, RM8
Food is good and their price will not burn a hole in our pockets. Our dinner comes to a total of RM40 including 2 bowls of rice. They are famous for their Asam fish and roasted chicken too. Parking will be a bit tricky if you're late. Do come early if you would like to dine here.

Loong Foong Seafood, Taman Paramount PJ

Every time I'm on my way to the usual tai chow place in Taman Paramount PJ; there will be tons of people queuing up to buy roasted duck from this restaurant. Thus, instead of my usual dinner place; detour to try this restaurant instead. Long Foong restaurant is famous for their roasted duck and if you're late, it might be sold out or you might need to go home empty-handed ;P

Was there around 6pm and we found a parking nearby which was good!
Hmm... overall, food was ok and roasted duck was good. But this place will not be in my usual dinner place list. If you have the Foursquare app, do have a read on "tips" list added by others and you'll know why.

Quarter (bottom) roasted duck RM16

Well, since they are famous for their roasted duck; we got ourselves a quarter of roasted duck (a must order!). Juicy and easy to chew (a must. I hate duck or lam which is hard to chew. Bad for teeth ;P); I'm lovin it. Goes well with the chili sauce provided.

Their acar is famous too. The acar comes in a box and that's the minimum and the only portion available. Priced at RM8 per box; it's fresh and the vegetables are super crunchy. Unless you have many pax dining together with you; you might not be able to finish the whole portion. But you can have it take away if you can't finish it.

Acar, RM8 per box.

We wanted to try their fish dishes and since we already had the duck and acar on the list; we just need a small fish dish portion as there's only two of us dining there. Guess what, the smallest fish fillet portion that they can made for us is 700g. That would cost like RM70 or RM80? Fine, forget the fish and they recommend us to take the infamous whole pumpkin filled with seafood in it. I'm not blaming them for recommending their specialty. But do think from the customer point of view, when you already had a main meat and a box of vegetables, it's impossible for us to finish the fish and a whole pumpkin even though we don't eat rice. Felt like being put on a chopping board when they insist us to take these dishes. It's not like we have 8 or 10 pax on the dining table.

Fine, we got these dishes instead. Home-made tofu and green dragon beard vegetables. Love the homemade bean curd and the vegetable is normal.

Bean curd/tofu at RM9

Green beard vegetable at RM12

Dinner for 2 pax with 4 dishes, 2 rice and 2 drinks

Dinner for 2 costs RM51 with 4 dishes, 2 rice and 2 drinks. Food was ok but the service is not really good. When we wanted to get our bill, no one actually came to us despite us telling the workers that we need a bill. It took 15 minutes for the bill to came that piss me off and to get our change, it's even longer! There it goes, off my dinner list. Should considering take away roasted duck instead if dining there.

Restoran Paramount SengFatt

These days, we often search for some tai chow shops to dine in rather than going into the mall. Probably because we spend most of our time in the mall that we crave for tai chow food.

Another few minutes drive from SS2 is Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya. There are lots of tai chow shops in this area where you can choose according to your pocket size.

This time we step into this Restoran Restaurant SengFatt. Recommended by my dear friend J. It was almost full at the moment we arrived and was lucky to get a table for 2. They have a Chinese menu on the wall but was told by the friendly auntie to ignore the menu and she will recommend the dishes available for the day.

Here's our dinner for the day:

"Tao Kon Taufu" or Dried Beancurd Stick with Beancurd

I'm a tofu beancurd lover and of course I love this dish. Their oyster sauce blend well with the beancurd and the mixed vegetables were fresh and crunch in my mouth. But it's something that I could cook at home. Well, it's more convenient to order it from the shop as it saves time :)

"Hong Siew Pai Kuat" or known as Fried Honey Pork Ribs?  or anyone got a better translation?
Love their pork ribs. Comes in a big portion than other shops plus their pork ribs have less bone and more meat for you to munch on. It taste a little bit sweet and salty and looks as if it's honey pork ribs. Or probably they mixed honey/sweet sauce to marinate it before frying. We got a surprised when they served this dish due to the portion because normally pork ribs are served more bones that meat in other shops.

"Ching Chow Fan Shu Yip" or Stir-fry Sweet Potato Leaves

Any dinner is not complete without a plate of fresh greens. I love sweet potato leaves and when I'm young; I used to eat this everyday because there's plenty of them in the garden. They are easy to plant and grow too. If you are lucky; you can find sweet potato fruit under the leaves after some time. Best stir-fry with belacan but I prefer it stir-fry with garlic because belacan will cover the smell and taste of the greens in the sweet potato leaves.

Comfort food for 2 on a rainy day.
Overall, this place serves good and affordable food. Most dishes comes in big portion. The portion above are in small portion and the total bill for 3 bowls of rice plus drinks comes to RM43.90. Do come early if you would like to get a table without waiting for long. When I was leaving the shop at about 8pm, there's a big crowd and luckily we were there early.

If case you can't find this shop, this shop is a corner shop located on the same row as Kong Sai Chai in front of Giant supermarket in Taman Paramount.
